Employee-Driven Philanthropy
Our employees are the most important component behind our
commitment to the community. Employees at all levels of our
organization contribute countless hours to nonprofit
organizations each year; serving on boards, acting as mentors
and rolling up their sleeves to take part in community service
activities. Through the Takeda Matching Gift Program and
company-sponsored volunteer projects, Takeda actively looks to
partner with its employees to magnify and acknowledge their
contributions.
Takeda Matching Gifts - Takeda employee donations reach a wide
variety of social causes and community organizations. To
encourage and support their involvement, Takeda's Matching Gift
Program matches employee contributions dollar-for-dollar to
eligible nonprofit organizations. In 2007, more than 200
charitable organizations benefited from the generosity of Takeda
employees. Money is donated to cultural, social service and
educational organizations across the United States.
Community Outreach Day - In August 2007, more than 200 Takeda
employees participated in the fifth annual Takeda Community
Outreach Day by painting classrooms and hallways, building an
outdoor learning center and landscaping Daniel Webster Middle
School in Waukegan in partnership with Rebuilding Together - a
non-profit organization that specializes in rehabbing buildings
and homes in lower-income areas.
Employees also took part in two special projects: the painting of
a 4-by-16-foot mural and developing an outdoor prairie garden
designed by a resident science teacher to teach students about
plants and local prairie ecology.
Takeda is also a sponsor of the organizations National Rebuilding
Day, held annually in Chicago to help refurbish homes of those in
need to make them safe, dry and warm. Takeda employees participate
in the refurbishment each April.
Annual Employee Programs - Takeda employees participate in a number of annual programs
throughout the year to give back to their communities. During the
holiday season each year, employees are encouraged to participate
in a toy drive and a food drive. For the past three years,
employees have also been given the opportunity to purchase bears
for children in local hospitals through the Starlight Starbright
Foundations Holiday Bear program.
Non-Profit Partnerships
Takeda focuses in many areas of the community, but specifically
on organizations that:
-
Offer health and human services assistance with an emphasis on
type 2 diabetes, insomnia, cardiovascular disease, oncology, or
gastrointestinal disorders, or
-
Support life sciences and health education programs serving
school or college-aged students
-
Have measurable goals and realistic strategies for achieving
them, and direct funding to specific projects that address the
focus of the requesting organization.
Two of Takeda's key partnerships, chosen for their commitment to
educating kids about living a healthy lifestyle during the grand
opening of Takeda's new Home Office in Deerfield, Ill., include:
Girls on the Run-Chicago - Girls on the Run is a not-for-profit
organization that uses running to educate and inspire girls for a
lifetime of self-respect and healthy living. With a three-year,
$250,000 grant from Takeda, Girls on the Run-Chicago is adding
after-school programs to schools in Lake and Cook counties, as
well as in other in-need areas. In addition to the new programs,
Takeda's support is helping to fund the Spanish translation of
the after-school program's curriculum for use nationally, as well
as the program';s local signature event - The Takeda WonderGirl 5K
- held in Chicago annually in June.
Midtown Educational Foundation - The Midtown Educational
Foundation establishes and supports programs that promote the
educational and personal development of Chicago's inner-city
youth. The centers help kids become better students and better
people through after-school and summertime programs. As a
three-year corporate partner, Takeda sponsors the Takeda-Midtown
Summer Sports Program at the Midtown Center for boys - a program
that encourages students to make healthy lifestyles a priority.
With Takeda's donation, more sports and additional resources will
be provided to the students participating.
